I want to retire in five years, but I’ve been saying that for three years.
I’ve always been vaguely ‘good with money’ but a few years ago I really fell down the rabbit hole. Learned what all the tax-advantaged accounts do and the magic of broad-based index funds.
Through the power of investing plus the privileges that come from being a DINK household (double income, no kids), early retirement is well within reach.
But every year I remember that I like my job. And I’m very much enjoying inflating my lifestyle. It’s possible the most fun thing about planning for early retirement is the planning, not the retiring.
After all, I started with a very pretty spreadsheet. Then I created an instagram account to connect with other personal finance nerds. And now there’s a podcast and a blog. I think maybe I just like nerding out about money with smart people.
My other hobbies? Enjoying a crisp glass of white wine and correcting people when they say ‘compound interest’ when they mean ‘compound growth.’
Pull up a chair and let’s hang out.
